View Full Version : Will you do anything special?

When the movie opens this summer? Some of us have re-read all the books, and re-watched the movies up until #6. It opens the week we open at our Shakespeare Festival, but I know a number of the cast will probably go to see it that first day, or at least matinees on the first weekend. We did that a few years ago when #5 came out, and the book release.

I won't.
I'll actually be far away from a cinema (or at last from an English screening) when the film comes out, so I'll see it a few days late.
I am not very hyped about it, actually. It'll be all right, but the previews/information I have seen don't make me expect a film better than the average HP fare so far - which is OK to watch but not something that gets me very excited.
I am curious how the kids are doing this time round. Watching them grow up has been fun so far. Although I dread any amount of Ron-based humour, and there seems to be a lot of that in the next film!

Well, fair do's, Elwen, there was a fair amount of it in the book, as I recall. He seemed to spend much of his time wrapped around Lavender Brown, to much teenaage hilarity. Yawn. That kind of 'humour' bored me even when *I* was in high school.
Probably won't do much in the way of anything special, Hugh. I've been doing a bit of re-reading, but I'm afraid I am not holding out much hope. I am looking forward to the movie, partly just to see how the book has been translated, partly to see how the cast are doing. And to find out if Matthew Lewis still looks like growing into a real Welsh film star!
Still, I always hold out hope. You never know, we might be surprised by a film of great depth, subtlety and meaning - but on the other hand...
Sorry. My cynical side is showing.

It won't be that :) but it will still be a better film than the purists think. :biggrin3:
I mean, it's HARRY POTTER, for pete's sake ... not Shakespeare!
Or even LotR ... *gasp*
I am planning to see it the weekend after it opens. :)

LOL! Indeed.... I think they'll do their best to hide his good looks till the book demands that he be given a more heroic role .... and that'll be in DH2.....
But it'll get harder to hide his looks. :D
Last year I was involved in a game (on a different website) which staged election campaigns for different HP characters. My team's candidates included Neville. It was fun finding out just how many rather dishy pictures of Matthew Lewis we could use.
it's actually difficult to recognise him as the same guy who was Neville :D - but somehow, with a goofy haircut and a fatsuit they still manage somehow.

I know, it's such a shame about the fatsuit! Sheesh. Let the lad shine a bit, eh? Honestly, he's not described as pudgy in the last two books, is he? Maybe they'll let him out this time... :)
Nice to find another Matt Lewis fan, Elwen. I was feeling rather odd, finding that I found him attractive in the last movie.
We saw him in person at Dragon*Con a couple of summers ago. He has quite outgrown the first year fat kid with big teeth look. And he had quite a lot of swooning squealing young girls after him!

I haven't checked recent pictures for months .... I think he even got his teeth fixed.
Which makes you wonder why wizard kids needed to have odd looking teeth in the first place (it's different for muggle-borns like Hermione, but Neville?!).

Apart from the 'we need this kid to look hopeless' casting, you mean?
Or, within canon, maybe his Gran was waiting for Neville to fix them himself and show himself a worthy son of his father.
Though I'm sticking with (a) above!
Reba, that is SO fun about Matt Lewis being followed by squealing girls! Heh heh. Guess the inner teenager dies hard! :D

I hope that when they get to the end do HP7, they'll put in some glimpse of him teaching, with scads of swooning girls listening to Neville a la Dr. Jones. LOL

We are going at midnight to see HBP! It is a cultural event that I do not want to miss. My daughters (11 and 13) have grown up with HP and are excited. We might even dress up.
