Dear folks -
For those of you who don't remember, I'm Elizabeth Kerner, and I've had three fantasy novels published: Song in the Silence, The Lesser Kindred, and Redeeming the Lost. RtL was published in 2005, and I've been going through a long, dreary dry spell since then.
But no longer! :D :yahoo: :D
I just got a new contract with my publisher for THREE NEW BOOKS! Yippee!
They will continue the story of Lanen and Co., but are set 20+ years after the end of Redeeming the Lost. I am SO jazzed about this!
Have a butterbeer on me!
Ow, no, stop, I didn't mean *literally*! Sheesh, some people... ;)

Congrats!
BTW, my daughters would like one of your dragons to be named Ragnilde. She was the star of the dragon story I made up for them. It's a family name, on Jonquil's side. I gave all of the Scandanavian dragons Nors-ish names.

My dear Hjal -
I love the name, and you never know! There are lots of the Dhrenagan Kantri, those who were the Lost, and many Aialakantri who will be taking part in the latest tale. Still, I have to be careful, as I don't really want to draw Norse parallels. I don't expect many people will have come across Sceatha as a word, for example, but Norse names are more identifiably Norwegian, as it were! Ragnilde - which is quite beautiful - is obviously a current, living name in a living language. Kantri names tend to be based in Old Speech, which was created by the Kantri long ages since (and functions more or less as Kolmar's equivalent of Latin, or indeed Anglo-Saxon).
Still, there are exceptions - Sceatha, for example, though that is more a usename/nom de guerre. In any case, I will bear it in mind! :)

Well, it could just be somebody's granny who had dragons' breath. ;) Don't twist your universe out of shape for this. I hope that your work goes well.

Thanks Hjal - no, I won't compromise where it might show, but - I'll see what I can do. That's part of the fun, after all, throwing in a few curves.
Heh. Though it doesn't always make the object happy. I never did hear anything back from mik about his appearance in Redeeming the Lost. I don't know if he was insulted or what. I meant it as a fun cameo. He kinda hasn't spoken to me since, not that we were such great buds, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the mikster.

Lanen, that's amazing!
I have to admit that I still haven't got round to reading your series - first I wanted to wait till it was finished (I hate waiting for the next installment once I started a story)... and I have to say I haven't managed to read more than perhaps about three books in the last two years (long story).
But I SHALL read them. They are on my 'to read' list, which I keep religiously....
And I won't wait till the next three are done - promise!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! :)

Thanks Elwen.
And don't worry about not having read my work yet - it really isn't a pre-requisite! One of my dearest friends in the world can't stand fantasy fiction and has never read a word of my work. It's not everybody's cup of chai. Heck, my FATHER has never read my books, though he has them all.

Great to hear about the new contract :yay:
Any idea of a title or when the first book is due?

Well, I have looked them up on Amazon now, but I'd like to check first whether any of the bookshops in town actually stocks them - one never knows!
In any case - your Amazon sales rating is a good deal better than mine!

Elwen, what have you written and how can I get hold of it?! :yay:
Amb - hiya hugmeister! Er - working titles only, you understand - I think this trilogy is to be called The End of Old Songs. First book title, again still just a working title, is Winds of Change and Shaping. Not so sure about that one, may need to fix it. But it'll do for now.
First book is due on bookstore shelves by April 2011, assuming I get my arse, mind and fingers in gear and get it in on time!
Good to see your phosphors. :)

LOL... it's an academic book about an ancient Greek travel writer, and would be quite boring to most people, I imagine. I am not expecting anyone (except colleagues and students) to read it, really. Apparently it sold 107 copies last year, and I am actually quite pleased.

Philostephanus, Pausanias, Agaclytus, or Dionysius Periegetes?

Is there no end to your arcane knowledge, Hjal?
And congrats on your sales figures, Elwen. :D For an academic tome, that's not bad at all! Er - where did he travel to, if there is a short answer?

LOL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ancient_Greek_travel_writers)! Good list Hjal, and two of the people on it are so exotic I had to look around a bit....
It's Pausanias, actually. He spent about 20 years doing research on Mainland Greece in the second century AD, and wrote a pretty long work about it all - something that looks a bit like a travel guide.
There are lots of detail about various places in Greece - especially really small ones. :)
Like my book, it's not the sort of book you just read for the fun of it, I suppose - it's not an easy read - although I am thinking of editing a selection from it for people who travel to Greece - once a travel book gets really old, it's fun to travel with, and I don't think there is a travel guide that's older than that - it's just that it needs a bit of explanation to make it usable today.
