Fan fiction web site FictionAlley.org has launched a fundraiser to create a scholarship in honor of a teenager who died of leukemia this year. Thirteen-year-old writer Katie O'Brien was passionate about her work, continuing to write even while she was in the hospital fighting for her life. Wristbands will be sold at "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" release parties around the globe to fund the scholarship. FictionAlley is a registered non-profit corporation with tax-exempt status.

Wow, what a sweet story, I hope they sell heaps!

Sorry I've been so terrible with the news over the last few months folks, I'll try and pick it up especially with the new book due out very shortly! :)

While Fiction Alley started this effort, I've seen links to it on other fanfiction sites (which I can't name as some of them have content unsuited to innocent eyes ;)) - it appears the scholarship fund is getting a fair amount of publicity, at the very least. :)
