Chapter 1: Learning of Hogwarts

Allison Frederickson stood outside, facing her house, sword in her hand. She had always dreamed of being in a battle, face to face with the enemy, sweat flowing down her cheek. She could just picture swinging her sword, and in a flash, the head of the enemy was gone, leaving her to be the victor.

Allie’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her mother’s voice. “Come in for dinner, Allie!” Allie sighed. Her mother just had to have called her in just then, didn’t she. Oh well. She set down the sword and went in. She saw her father seated at the kitchen table, and her mother was bringing the rolls over. “There you are, sweetheart, come and eat,” her mom said, and set the rolls on the table. Allie sat down, and for most of dinner, she was silent. In fact, tonight, there was an especially strange silence. Maybe it was that the dog wasn’t here, begging for food, because he was at the vet. But it was really that her parents needed to talk to her, and they didn’t know how to start.

Finally, her mom said to her, “Well, sweetheart, your father and I have something very important to tell you. It’s about your education. You see, Allie, your father and I, well… and you as well, we… we’re… wizards. We’ve been on a mission for years in the town, and well, we didn’t leave because you were so happy here.”

“What do you mean, we’re wizards?” Allie asked, a little concerned. “We can do magic,” said her mom. “And starting next year, you’ll be going to wizard school.” “What?” exclaimed Allie. “No way!” “Yes way,” her father said. “You’re 11 now, and going into sixth grade. You’ve been living with Muggles, (regular humans) for 11 years, and it’s high time you learn how to deal with your own kind.”

Her parents continued for quite some time, explaining about wizards, and Hogwarts, and other things like that. Afterward, she was sent to bed. While lying in bed, she thought about all the things her parents had talked about. What would Hogwarts be like? And would she fit in?
