I saw this on ( shudder ) another site and I thought it might be fun to come up with different, funny titles for Harry Potter books. They don't have to make sense, or they can. The only requisite is that they be goofy. If this has been done before here, I apologize, but I can't find a thread like this, so here goes.

That title is actual in reference to someone's thread on the Something Awful forums where the title was: "Hermione dies in new Harry Potter Book"... two days before the book came out... which turned out to be misinformation but still terrible news since noone actually knew. Unfortunately, someone's avatar on the same forums gave away the actual death. This prompted another member to change their avatar to "Dinsdale Durgewood dies in Harry Potter 6"

personally, i'd like a flick through "harry potter and the alternate universe" where he gets to re-live his school years with tiny details changed.

(i was re-reading OotP earlier and wondered how different the book would be if Harry had been made prefect instead of Ron, which led me to start thinking about the other books, for instance, if Sirius had chosen to become an animagus-rat and Pettigrew had become the dog, or if Lupin had actually killed someone in his werewolf state, or if Moody hadn't lost an eye and gained the magical one)

Funny that this thread should become lively again today. I've just read a small article in my local newspaper ( The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram ) that puports to be compiled from staff and wire reports. The literary world is abuzz with Harry Potter rumors. A company named Seabottom Productions, which shares offices with the London lawyers for Warner Bros.,the studio that owns the film rights to the apprentice wizard, recently registered two titles with the British Patent Office. Hold on to your broom. They are Harry Potter and the Mudblood Revolt, and Harry Potter and the Quest of the Centaur. Potter Web sites immediately began projecting these as the final two installments in J.K. Rowling's extraordinarily successful series. Contrarians insist it's a campaign of disinformation. They point out that an apocryphal title was registered a few years ago-Harry Potter and the Pyramids of Furmat-and never used. Personally, we don't care what titles Rowling uses; we just hope she's typing fast.

I've looked at this site ( the one I go to the most, natch! ) and haven't seen anything about this. I'll check out some of the others, but this is the first I've heard of this. This was in a section of the Star-Telegram called "People Watch", a celebrity section. We'll see, but I think those two titles are kind of funny, especially the last one. Can't see that one being used as the final book title.

Regarding Seabottom and the likeliness of Harry Potter and the Mudblood Revolt and Harry Potter and the Quest of the Centaur being real titles: let's put all our wagers on "no way." As the BBC reminds us, in August of 2001, someone found that Time Warner had registered three titles: Harry Potter and the Chariots of Light, Harry Potter and the Pyramids of Fumat and Harry Potter and the Alchemist's Cell. These were bought by the WB, it was later discovered, not for use in future titles, but to avoid copyright entanglements with an independent person who had registered those names. JK Rowling later denied that these names had anything to do with her books.

JK Rowlng's camp has not yet commented on this latest issue, but she has said repeatedly that not a soul on earth knows her remaining titles beside herself. Also, she said that because of the headaches caused by changing the name of the fourth book from Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire so close to publication, she would never again hide a title once she was positive which she wanted to use. This basically means that she has said that very shortly after she decides on a title (which can change often while writing a book), she will go public with it. If anyone registers the name it will be JKR or her camp before WB, or we will hear about it far before WB (and certainly a company called Seabottom) registers it.

It's also twice as unlikely that both titles - for HP6 and HP7 - would be released this way, even in the unlikely circumstance that these titles actually come from JKR. She's almost as secretive about her titles as she is about her plot.

Again, there's no confirmation from either side - but don't start believing this one yet. It's far more likely that this is another Pyramids of Fumat incident

I had never heard that she had to change the name of GOF from "The Doomspell Tournament." I like GOF better anyway, so I think that was for the best.
