I must say that the departure of Fred and George Weasley from Hogwarts was one of my favorite parts of OotP. The whole passage where they fly off into the sunset just about had me in tears (the good kind), that's how much I adore these guys.:notworthy I'm going to marry the twins! (yes, both of them, of course) I've always had a soft spot for heroic trouble makers. *sigh*:D

Oh Gred and Forge, what would we have done without you? What will Hogwarts do without you now?;)

Which brings me to a (somewhat far-fetched ;)) speculation....

Everyone is always saying what great magic Fred and George do (even though they don't neccessarily apply their skills uh....conventionally ;))
So basically what I've been wondering is.....
Does anyone else wonder if the twins and their joke shop will have a part to play in the war against Voldemort? Not necessarily just what Harry says that he has a feeling that "we'll all need a few laughs right now", but something more. Like could the twins use some of their jokes against dear old Voldie?

*imagines Voldemort biting into a canary cream, or having his wand turn into a rubber chicken*

Sorry I actually meant for this thread to be more of a Fred and George appreciation thread, but I got carried away by my 'speculations.':p

Actually, I came up with that thought some time ago... that the twins might come up with the Ultimate Weapon[tm] while they were trying to improve the Canary Cream or something ;)

The tactical applications of a Portable Swamp come to mind...

Speaking of which, I just love the TARDIS-style concept of being able to create a 4 or 5-foot deep quagmire of mud, stagnant water, bulrshes and frogs...indoors...in an upper-story corridor...

No wonder Flitwick was impressed.

you know, i've read some HP fanfics that says exactly that...the twins' joke shop becomes some sort of a front for the Order of the Phoenix. not sure if that'll happen though. i guess the Order will stick with Grimmauld Place, with its state-of-the-art security and all ;)

Hear Hear!! :D

Chiana, you'll have to beat me to it ;) Well there are two of em!

I only wish OotP came out a week earlier so I could play some pranks Gred and Forge style on my old headteacher (who is rather like Umbridge...)

Fred and George, the inspiration for a generation! :D

Chiana sits perched in her chair, curled over OoTP. She searches for the right page

Ah Ha, here it is! Brilliant!

She begins to type directly from the passage in the book

-
"So...you think its amusing to turn a school corridor into a swamp, do you?"

"Pretty amusing, yeah,"said Fred, looking back up at her without the slightest sign of fear.

Filch elbowed his way closer to Umbridge, almost crying with happiness.

"I've got the form, headmistress,"he said hoarsely, waving the peice of parchment Harry had just seen him take from the desk. "I've got the form and I've got the whips waiting...Oh, let me do it now..."

"Very good Argus,"she said."You two,"she went ongazing down at Fred and George,"are about to learn what happens to wrongdoers at my school."

"You know what?said Fred. "I dont think we are."

He turned to his twin.

"George,"said Fred, "I think we've outgrown full-time education."

"Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," George said lightly.

"Time to test our talents in the real world,d'you reckon?"asked
Fred.

"Definitely,"said George.

And before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wands and said together Accio Brooms!"

Harry heard a loud crash somewhere in the distance. Looking to his left he ducked just in time-Fred ans George's broomsticks, one still trailing the heavy chain and iron peg with which Umbridge had fastened to the wall, were hurtling along the corridor towards their owners. They turned left, streaked down the stairs, and stopped sharply in front of the twins, the chain clattering loudly on the flagged stone floor.

"We wont be seeing you,"Fred told Professor Umbridge, swinging his leg over his broomstick.

"Yeah, dont bother to keep in touch,"said George, mouting his own.

Fred looked around at the assembled students, and at the silent watchful crowd.

"If anyone fancies buying a portable swamp, as demonstrated upstairs, come to number ninety-three, diagon Alley-Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes," he said in a loud voice. "our new premises!"

"Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat,"George added, pointing at Professor Umbridge.

'STOP THEM!"shreiked Umbridge, but it was too late. As the Inquisitorial Squad closed in, Fred and George kicked off from the floor, shooting fifteen feet into the air, the iron peg swinging dangerously below. Fred looked across the hall at the poltergeist bobbing on his own level above the crowd.

"Give her hell for us Peeve's."

And Peeve's,whom Harry had never seen take an order from a student before, swept his belled hat from his head and sprang a salute as Fred and George wheeled about a tumultuous applause from the students below and sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset.

I wipe tears over laughter from my eye every time I read that.

BRAVO FRED & GEORGE!!!
BLOODY BRILLIANT THOSE TWO!!!

Has anybody else ever noticed how Fred is the louder of the two? He also has more of the funny bits than George does.

Thank goodness Ginny seems to be learning well from them. :) We need that Weasley humor. (And JKR better have Fred/George involved in 6 & 7, even though they aren't at Hogwarts anymore.)

Do you notice, that even though they tease her to no end sometimes, in OoTP they seem to be much more brotherly. In a sense that they cheer her on and treat her as an equal. Wizard and WEasley wise.

They even think she's fair at Quidditch.

I think the up coming war, and almost losing her once was enough of a kick for them. They really care and protect their sister:D

or what if... the joke shop becomes a rendezvous of sorts for members of the order to meet and trade info, weapons... becomes a factory for weapons and such... coz now voldie's minions know that sirius is involved _ they know grimmauld place's fortifications, its location, and will surely attack at will... who could suspect a joke shop? ahh but... the shop is owned by weasleys... another connection... book 6 needsta hurry up :p . ...

Oh yes... :swoon: :swoon:

Fred an' George are gonna join the OotP, that much is obvious. I like the idea of the WWW shop becoming the new home of the OotP.

Fighting Moldy Voldy with Canary Creams makes very ToT/PTerry/Discworld-ish sense. And that's always good.

Once again, :swoon: to the brilliant art-ist, Maggie and her loverlie Weasely twins...

Ooh, I've loved those two forever! I nearly cried when I heard a rumor of one of them dying in a future book... **prays that it's not true**

Just one question, I was wondering, didn't it say in the last book that it's impossible to fly on broomsticks in and out of Hogwarts? I seem to recall something like that, so does anyone have any info on how they managed it?

I still love 'em though... and that picture is great, that's way more what I imagined them as... I must say, I was highly disappointed when I saw them in the movie:(

Kristin

Welcome, KillerBunny! Cool name. :D

I know it's impossible to Apparate to Hogwarts. I'm not sure if there's anything about brooms.

Well, it was a spectacular exit in any case.

As for one of them dying ... I know that the death in OotP shocked many, many people, so I think all bets are off regarding who will die next ... meaning that you can't trust major characters to be safe but you can't trust rumors either. (So I'd say the rumor means nothing.)

KillerBunny

Haha, thanks! I love Monty Python:D

Yeah... I guess I might've read it wrong... it's bugging the heck out of me though so I think I might check Book 4 sometime to see if it says anything... I could've sworn Hermione said it to Ron when they were talking about how the other schools could get to Hogwarts. Oh well. And yes, I loved their exit as well, and the way they defied Umbridge. It was so great.

I don't really believe the rumor either, after all there've been reports of just about every character in the book dying, so I'm not too worried. But I would be devastated if it actually happened!

Hi KillerBunny! Welcome!:D
I think what it was is that Hermione said you couldn't get into Hogwarts by stealth in PoA, re Sirius Black... She also said, I think, that he couldn't be getting into Hogwarts on a broomstick because the dementors would see him... I don't know, maybe that's what you were thinking of?:)

Well, I'm a guy, so I don't feel that particular desire about the twins! :D But if Tonks is ( erm, how shall I say this without being anti-PC? ) more inclined to like boys, then she's my gal! I think I fell in love with her from her first appearance. :swoon:

Anyway, ahem, back to the Weasley boys! I was reading someone else's opinion that Grimmauld Place might actually be inherited by Sirius's only remaining kin, and we all know who that is. ( boo, hiss! )

So, if that does happen, the Joke Shop could become a place for the OOTP to meet, but I think Dumbledore ( and JKR ) will come up with something else. I think it would be cool if Harry still taught DADA and did it in the back of the Joke Shop. They would still have the "normal" DADA class at Hogwarts, yet Harry could still teach his more hands-on style at the Weasley's shop.

I am sooooo glad I found my way back here. Out of all the other forums have visited over the years, MI is still the best.

Anyway Fred:cool: and George:cool: have been two of my most favorites.

I'm betting that they probably have already joined OOtP. They were already of age and being in school was the only reason they hadn't been allowed.

As far as broomsticks, Hermione's comment in GoF about the broomsticks was that the students from the other schools wouldn't be arriving on them because it was too far to travel. Actually what suprised me was D's portkey. But I guess he can do about anything.

I also agree that Grimauld may no longer be the headquarters, because of Bellatrix even if she doesn't inheirit it, she does know about it, which would make it unsafe.

Enough of that.
I'd like to raise my glass and drink a butterbeer to the our heros

Oddly, Dobby seems able to Apparate/Disapparate on Hogwarts grounds. Of course, elf-magic may not work the same way human wizarding does.

Great exit, yes. Peeves' salute was a perfect touch.

IIRC, in CoS Dobby is at Harry's bedside in the hospital ward when he vanishes. Then again, seeing how the food magically appears on tables and the dishes disappear afterwards, it seems likely that elf magic just isn't based on quite the same principles as Apparation/Disapparation.

Here's something I was wondering:

With Fred and George's amazing joke shop, their incredible fireworks, etc. ... will they put Zonko's and Dr. Filibuster out of business?

I think Dr. Filibuster is definitely out. Fred and George's fireworks are much better!

Those new duds the Weasleys are wearing at the end of Phoenix-- you know, the green dragon skin outfits? Dragon skin deflects spells, doesn't it? D'ya think Fred and George have gone to the forge and gotten themselves some armor for the war?

Here's a challenge for all the Fred/George watchers out there:

How could you tell them apart?

What differences between the two appear in canon? This has been a debate subject in other fora, and I'd love to hear which cues you all may have picked up.

It's easy to think of them as interchangeable, but I'm sure JKR must have included subtle differences which devoted fans might detect.

ChianaWeasley
01-02-2004, 10:37 AM
Well, in the film, one of the twins has a rather noticable slouch  :D Sorry only difference I could think of, and I'm sure you mean from the book only:o

I always felt George was a bit more sensible then Fred, Fred was always more daring with his ways. And I think In the GoF, George was warning Fred that what they were doing in a letter to Bagman was blackmail...

Kristin
01-02-2004, 06:18 PM
George is a lot quieter than Fred. I also think that Fred is more the leader of the two, and George is more the follower.

If you look at some of the hilarious one-liners from the twins, a lot more of them come from Fred than from George.

Moxie
01-02-2004, 06:25 PM
Fred's also the one with the mean streak - making Ron's teddy bear grow extra limbs was probably involuntary early-childhood magic, but bashing in a Puffskein with a Quidditch bat* is just nasty.

Oooh! Oooh! Looks like I was right!

Telchar, you were right too! Fred and George didn't exactly forge armour, but they made Shield Spell-protected clothing!!!! :D

Aww....I'm so proud of them. ;) Though, admittedly, some of their inventions did end up backfiring a bit: the love potions (though that was expected), but the peruvian darkness powder? That stuff is kinda scary.

Telchar II
07-18-2005, 10:36 AM
If I was right above, and the twins were wearing green dragon armor at the end of book 5, then I think they invested in more (this time, black in color), and wore it to Dumbledore's funeral.

Dragon hide -- stylish and useful! Perhaps WWW will sell it next?

swiftsnowmane
07-18-2005, 12:23 PM
Random, but....

In book six, either Fred or George (I can't recall which :o) mentioned something about visiting a girl in the village who was a muggle, and showing off their magic tricks to her. Somehow this strikes me as possibly important.....

Telchar II
07-18-2005, 01:41 PM
Fred and George have always taken Muggles more seriously than others do. Remember how they learned to pick locks? They appreciate Muggle remedies because they are useful skills. In this, Fred and George greatly resemble their father in his appreciation of and excitement at the Muggle world.

I therefore think it is extremely likely that the twins' storeroom at the Burrow is not extra WWW inventory. Harry smelled gunpowder, and I don't think that's a red herring. A lot of the explosions that the rest of the family heard from Fred and George's room over the years were probably nonmagical in nature.

In other words, Fred and George's room is now a cache of muggle weaponry. It would be interesting if Muggle remedies proved to be Voldemort's downfall.

or maybe the gunpowder is just being used to develop plain old fireworks. they seem to have been the source for the fireworks display at the Burrow during Harry's stay in GoF, so knowing what we know about the twins, i would say that they're out "perfecting" these fireworks. but i wouldn't set aside the possiblity that the twins are fiddling around with muggle weaponry... that is something that they would do, afterall.

I dunno whether their Muggle love will have anything to do with weapons.....I was just thinking that maybe Fred or George would fall in love with a muggle girl. (*cough* me *cough*) Hee hee. ;)
