View Full Version : Things You Want/Don't Want to See in Book Five

Someone brought this up in the OOtP thread, but I thought I'd make a place from them so they wouldn't get lost in the jumble.
Things I'd Like:
-To see Neville come into his own
-More Snape
-More Lucius and the Malfoy family in general
-A DADA teacher that stays for more than one book. The evil DADA teacher bit is getting old.
Things I'll Gouge My Eyes Out If I See:
-Snape is Harry's father
-Snape is Voldemort's son
-Harry as heir of Gryffindor
-Snape being syrupy around the DADA teacher.

Or one of our theories we've concucted over the years to actually come true... Whether how far fetched they may be..

I say what will come will come and we (and Harry) will just have to meet it when it does. ;-)

By "syrupy" do you mean falling all over? Because I think that'd be adorable... as long as he remains his mean Snapey self around the students.
Things I'd love to See:
Snape as a vampire :p
Student-y romance... in the non-sickening form
Harry's parents' history (coming!) :D
Madame Hooch gets killed in a freak accident and Oliver Wood takes her place
Neville gets a backbone.. a more interesting one
Sirius Black's name is cleared and everyone freaks out *grins*
The "hard to write" death is really a rumor
Things that would make me cringe
A Harry/Hermione romance
Snape/Lupin. Sorry amrael ;), but I'm really not interested
Harry does something heroic and the entire school is afraid of him again
Too many pages w/o Snape
Too many pages of the Dursleys
That's all for now :)

Things that would make my eyes bleed:
-Fred or George being the one who dies, ANYBODY but them!
-Lots of House-Elf scenes, I HATE house-elves!
-Harry having to stay with the Dursley's at the end of THIS year, he needs to be with Sirius!
that's all I can think of that hasn't already been stated, but I have a feeling, come June 21rst, our jaws will be dropping to the floor and we'll be really tired and crank for work in the morning!

*pictures Snape washing his hair with honey-scented soap and pinning a pink carnation to his robes. Runs screaming for the door*
Things I don't want to see:
-Hedwig turning out to be an animagus/ghost of dead mother
-Any more whinging out of Ron
-Any more stupid plots by the Dursleys to keep Harry at Privet Drive. They never work.
Things I want:
-Interaction and contribution from teachers other than Snape and McGonagall.
-Dumbledore being a powerful, effective wizards instead of a bystander
-Petunia Dursley to tell Harry more about his mother
Pilgrim Grey

I actually want to see more of the Dursley's, but interesting stuff, like COS and POA style, not boring stuff like in GOF, if that makes any sense. And I agree with Saryn, I really want to hear more of Petunia's opinions on Lily and James

-Lots of House-Elf scenes, I HATE house-elves! LOL, me too. I can't stand endless chapters about SPEW.
I want there to be a LOT more Snape (obviously) and I'd like another really good twist like the PoA one.
Pilgrim Grey
01-19-2003, 06:57 AM
I'd like a twist, but more of a GOF style one. In POA, it was just a sort of "yes everything you thought was true, but substitute Sirius' name for Peter's", where as in GOF everything made sense before and after the twist (like, nothing about Moody seems odd until everything's revealed). Sorry, I seem to be making a lot of these kind of posts lately. :)

You mean like a Sixth Sense sorta twist...
Wouldn't it be great to find out that Harry was really dead but didn't know it and the only people who could see him were Dumbledore, Snape, Sirius, Ron and Hermione? Hehe... too many people seeing dead-ghost-harry...
Sorry, just watched that movie again last night... All my friends hate it, but I like Bruce Willis... not the kid though...

Thank youf or spoiling the ending of Sixth Sense for me.... :(
If Harry and Hermione had a romance, I'd cry, I really would, lol I really need to stop being so sensitive! But after a few years, discussing the boks, characters etc, you get rather attached to the characters, espech, Ron, my Ronniekins...
I dont want to see, a Weasley death, unless it's Percy... :(
He can die and go to sleep, no one likes him ;)

Second of all...
I think all literary characters, liked by the masses or not, deserves at least one fan and so I would like to say be nice to poor Percy... he don't know any better. Heck, he's only a kiss-up. Oops, I mean... yeah.

Oooh! Or maybe Harry isn't Harry at all...he's a made up character to inspire the wizarding world that if a little boy could make a difference, so could they. Or maybe the REAL Harry is dead, and they got a good fake one to fight Voldemort and had him go through sort of the same things....hmmm...

I definately want to see:
-Ron and Hermione to "get" together, I love to see them argue though you KNOW
-Lupin return as the DADA teacher
-Neville hits puberty and it treats him rather nicely
-Dudley to be turned into a complete pig(no more tails, the whole shabbam!)
-Harry gives Ginny a chance
-Ron duel with Malfoy
Things i dont want to see:
-Hermione and Krum
-yet ANOTHER DADA teacher
-Hagrid living alone(Come on he needs a wife!)
-veelas
-no mushy teen love scenes

Okay I'm on horrid mood today (note, my opinions tend to change daily on this ;))
I want to see:
- death. I think I want to get rid of Hagrid now :p
- Weasley twins having girlfriends.
- Harry beat Draco totally, not just by being there.
I don't want to see:
- Harry/Ginny romance
- any Cho romance
- Ron/Malfoy stuff. They just get on my nerves.
- too much pain on scar
- Creeveys. I've got enough of them :p
- Crabbe/Goyle making/going out with anyone
Okay. I'm on riddiculous mood too...

Don't want to See:
I don't want to see the Dursley's being nasty to Harry again. It's old and repetitive, it'd be really scary and shocking to see them being nice to Harry, but judging by the first pragraph, it won't happen...
I don't want to see Ron and Hermione arguing all the time, I want it to tone down, turn to flirting or something, subtle flirting, small little compliments, things like that Oh God,I am such a bloody sucker for romance! :D
I'd like to see less Gryffindor and Slytherin rivalry, oh it's so boring now, Gryffindor aren't the best house in the school, just because the're brave  Slytherin aren't the best house because they want power, and they're cunning, same with Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, but I'd like to see more of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, see how these houses really deal with things. Gryffindors keep their head's high and fight on in bad times, Slytherins plot and scheme but what to the Huffs and Ravens do?!
Oh and finally, no Harry getting away with everything! It's actually getting on my nerves! You cant blame Snape for getting mad with this fame stuff! Favouritism I tells ya! Unless there's a hidden meaning, like Dumbledore intends Harry (maybe Harry's the only one) who can sort out this mess of good and evil, good and power, power and evil... I don't know...
I don't want to see:
- Harry/Ginny romance
- any Cho romance
- Ron/Malfoy stuff. They just get on my nerves.
- too much pain on scar
Yes! Those too! I don't think I could stand other dream when he wakes up going "Oww my head. Voldie must be hating me, Voldie must be near!"
I'm a H/G shipper, but not yet, Harry can't have a girlfriend, what with Ron and Hermione ;) (It's gonna happen I tells ya!) to much romance, the ickle ones will get scared ;)
Cho will go crazy, with out her Cedric. She'll think Harry killed Cedric in a revenge attack! ;)

I really don't want to see much romance. I'm really not interested in Ron/Hermione or Harry/Ginny. I'd rather the focus was on the action (no pun intended) with Voldy & friends.
I'm with Elfëa, I want to see death, general darkness and plenty of emotional moments.
And the Gryff/Slyth rivalry is getting boring, (after all everyone knows Slytherin's the best  ). Yes! Those too! I don't think I could stand other dream when he wakes up going "Oww my head. Voldie must be hating me, Voldie must be near!" Cue the OoTP movie.
HARRY cries out and grasps his forehead.
RON: Mr Harry? It's the scar isn't it?
HARRY: Yes Ron, it's getting more painful.

I'm still reeling from when Elfea suggested Harry was a made up character... Argh, requires too much thinking....
You know what? Rereading some of my fav books, I've decided I'd like to see some mental powers in OotP. Like, telepathy. But, like, not telepathy. Ya know?
I could go into detail on what KINDS of mind power, but it would probably put you all to sleep. (Note: Read the Obernewtyn Chronicles-- Fantastic books!)
I'd also like to see mental STRENGTH. You know, as in strength of mind. Will power. Some face off with the Dark Lord that really tests how strong his mind is. Temptation. Really BAD temptation. Easy way versus the right way kind of thing.
I would love to see a love/betrayal thing happened. Boy likes girl, say, Harry and Cho. Girl brutally betrays boy, say rats him out to Dark Lord. I'm mega big on the betrayal bit here. I love Ron, but I'm tempted to see what would happen if HIS will power was broken and he betrayed Harry. Or maybe Hermione. That would be a brutal stab to the heart. Now, it's kind of a given that the betrayer would most likely die in the end, say, Harry stabs Ron/Cho in the gut. Ooooh, like a Faith/Buffy ending... Yeah, and then the betrayer falls off the building. There's your 'hard-to-write' death right there. Course, I really don't want Ron to die. Get rid of Cho instead.

Where?
Can't remember saying anything like that. :o But then again, I tend to think too much and speak even more ;)
Agree with love/betrayal - would people think that Ron would take Dark Mark in order to protect his family/friends? I think Harry would - but he can be reasoned out of it. Ron is different tho - he doesn't really follow logic in his actions everytime... ;)
ChianaWeasley

If I can squeeze in...
I agree Ron would sacrifice himself for his friends and family, thats how he's different from Harry. Their both deep characters but in a sense. Ron has a more realistic deepness to him.
He understands the game of chess, and Harry doesn't. I think that shows alot.

Sorry, Elfea, Rivenlas said it :o. My mistake.
"Who cares about Harry Potter?"
Nah, I've met people like that. Daft, if you ask me. Dunno a good book when they see one. Why, half of them tell me that Harry Potter's for kids and Lord of the Rings has too many big words and Obernewtyn (a fav series of mine) has a concept that's too confusing. Bah. Shallow people.
But that was off topic...
Chiana, I think you've got a point. Ron's a good strategizer. Sometimes it seems he says or does things without thinking, which makes him seem like he doesn't think ahead, but the chess skills prove otherwise. I think those skills will play an important roll up ahead, and not just to get to some ruddy stone behind a stupid mirror.
OH! New thought to Ron/betrayal theory. Ron makes it LOOK like he betrayed Harry to play spy, yeah, but Harry thinks he actually did and Dumbledore knows better and it's all "yikes, what to do" and then in the end, Harry ends up stabbing him in the gut and Hermione bursts into tears and Dumbledore tells Harry the truth and he gets all sad.
And then Voldemort kills them all.
Sorry, kinda a pessamist today.

The weasley twin's are one of the biggest comedy characters in the HP series, all their lines are brilliant and make you laugh out loud while you read(and people think your nuts, but hell it's harry potter!). Oh yes, I'd like that a lot. And everyone likes him/her, even Ron & Hermione (and one of those two people might even have a little teenage crush on this person, depending on it being a boy or girl) and it ticks Harry off.
Twisted plots? HA! How twisted do you wanna get?
I want it to get really really really darker. Like, really dark. So dark, you can light a candle and you won't see much. Just blackness.
This is what I've decided I want to see:
Ron decides to be spur-of-the-moment hero guy and pushes Harry out of the way of some horrid curse and he goes comotose. Hermione spends hours in the library looking for something to help him and it becomes more important than anything else in her life. It slowly consumes her. She won't eat, won't sleep, won't even do her homework . Yes, hard to believe, eh? Meanwhile, Harry takes a trip down guilt road and Malfoy doesn't make it any better and everyone hates Harry except Hermione, but she's too busy with her nose in books. ANd so Harry goes and gets himself kidnapped and then there's this new face off with Voldie and this huge battle and something funky happens and Harry goes back to Hogwarts traumatized, as per usual, and Dumbledore does his explaining thing and somehow through the whole thing someone dies and Ron is somehow miraculously cured and everyone's happy and they all celebrate and the only weight on their minds is the death of whoever died.
Uh... yeah. And that kids is what they call a runon sentence. I could have said Ron died, but that would make me look way too "let's kill Ron and make him die semi-heroically" kinda thing, since I'd have done it twice. And I really don't want to kill Ron because he's so cool. I dunno what's wrong with me. Maybe it's that goatcheese I had the other day... Goats are evil, therefor anything that bears their name is evil. Goat milk, goat cheese, goatees, goat George Bush, goat Satan.......

Actually, PoA contains multiple references to Cho Chang being a very skilled flier, who manages to keep up with Harry pretty well until the situation calls for more speed then her Comet 260 is capable of. Therefore, all that's needed is for Cho to get a decent broom (I occasionally wonder if Book 7 will include a subplot in which Harry and Cho are both trying out for England's next World Cup team - on identical brooms so the coaches can more accurately compare their Quidditch skills). Whether or not Cho's role in the books grows, I would like to see more of the Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs; there are after all four houses at Hogwarts and it's sad to see half of them neglected.

Maybe Percy and Penelope will get married.. ;)
I just think it's kinda hard to bring in really huge Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff characters. After all, Gryfs ALWAYS have Potions with the Slytherins. Rav/Huf characters always seem to go out of the picture after that particular instance. (i.e, Justin Finch-Fletchey in CoS, Cedric (minor in PoA) in GoF, etc)

Well since Harry likes Cho so much, maybe J.K. Rowling will put them head on against each other in quidditch. And it'll develop as they compete.
Thats definately is a good guess though Moxie.
I dont want to see Harry get with Cho, for some reason I just find her...I dunno... cant find the right word

I don't really like the idea of Cho and Harry together either. I just don't. There isn't really anything wrong with Cho, I just don't like her...maybe she's too perfect for my liking. :D
Elfëa
02-26-2003, 06:28 AM
Cho is "perfect" because that's how Harry sees her (Harry is the focaliser of the books :p) - but no one's perfect - not even our dear Harry.
I hope to see that in the books :p

I wouldn't like to see Harry and Cho together either! But it would be great to see them compite in quidditch..
By the way, Elfea, i love that TV show, Alias too! :D

Cho won't ever be able to go out with Harry, not after his involvment with her boyfriend's death ;)
She could go loopy (infact, in my Hermione/Cho slash which I was writing last night, Cho goes loopy on the Quidditch pitch and blames Harry for Cedric's death, try to kill him, y'know ;) ) and try to kil him! lol she gets expelled and thats the end of her!
Or maybe she's Hogwart's cortesan "I get paid to make men believe I love them!" and now Cedric's gone, she'll try it on with Harry, but Harry isn't interested, because he's all depressed and moody, as you would be after seeing such tragic events in a graveyard ;)

Why do people hate Cho? We don't really know *anything* about her. We know that she's pretty, and Harry likes her, that she plays Quidditch, has friends and went to the Yule Ball with Cedric. Do we know anything else? I for one would like to see her develop a personality. Then I can decide if I like her or not!
And I would like to see more of the other two houses too:)
And no more Quidditch. It's boring.
And no more writing the books so they can be understood by the uninitiated. It's getting tedious to read recaps of Harry's adventures up to this point in every book. But I can't really see that changing.
And no more plot twists like Moody's. I'm still not buying into that one;)

I dont like Cho because...well shes a..."goody two shoes" i guess. I dunno her type just bugs me, I agree with alqua she just seems to perfect. He's better of craning for a veela through all the books.
I'd like to see Hagrid get involved with someone, perhaps Rowling will show the extened relationship between Hagrid and madame Maxime. I'd like to see him with someone, he's so loving. :)
Im rather sick of the whole "are you off to the library again Hermione?" "Of course I've got loads to do" then she runs off. Half the time Hermione is in the library and out of the picture. It just bugs me, no more library escapes Hermione.

She doesn't seem like anything to me. Just a name.
I think Hermione will get away from the library more and more. JK must get tired of writing "I'm off to the library!" over and over.
More Cedric Diggory! What, you can't bring him back? aaaahhhh!!! Just when we were realizing what a cool guy he was, he bites the bullet. No fair!
New Quidditch team members. Okay, I know I said I didn't want more Quidditch but it'll probably be in so at least get some new players to talk about! Gryffindor's team hasn't changed in three years.
And I want to see more of the wizarding world outside of Hogwarts.
I want to see the twins open up their joke shop.
And more of the Weasleys in general. They're all cool. Esp. Charlie.
More magical gizmos!!
I'm just getting started:D

In an interview a few years back, I'm sure JKR said that Hermione would lighten up, so maybe she'll sit in the common room :)
don't forget, that they have their wizarding gcses coming up ;) Those dreaded owls, so we may just see Hermione sweating it out, nagging the lads...

Well good, I did notice how she's began to mellow out. But I want to see her grow out of the library phase, ::sarcasm:: just like she'll stop being the best in every subject ;)
I'd like to see more of dudley being the butt of Fred and George's new candy jokes. He deserves it, the fat little beast!
A little less of Dobby, he was cute at first. He's alright now, but that other one...whats her name? gahh!! The drunkard, who cries all the time. Now she's just plain annoying!
And while i'm at it...no more S.P.E.W.

Things I Don't Want to See in Book 5
Dumbledore giving Prof. McGonagall a striptease lapdance.
Prof. McGonagall giving Dumbledore a striptease lapdance. [Works both ways, you see.]
Fleur buzzing her hair and joining the army.
Cedric coming back to haunt Harry. "Woooo...I SEE yooooou...watch out, little Potty........"
Moaning Myrtle cleaning her toilet.
Anybody using the toilet.
Heck, I don't want to see a toilet, period.
Things I Do Want to See in Book 5
Harry and Draco having a "Who can turn a better cartwheel" contest.
Ron deciding Broadway is his destiny, OR deciding the only way to stand out amongst his brothers is to change his name to Chi-Chi and become a drag queen Salsa instructor in Miami.
People starting to call Ron "Mo." [Who gets it? :p]
Hermione doing an Irish jig in Potions.
Snape doing an Irish jig in Potions.
Everyone doing an Irish jig in Potions.
Dobby deciding that working at Hogwarts as a servant is not his calling and becomes the next DADA professor.
What, these had to be plausible? :p

Well thinking about Ron's character...I'd say he might do an irish jig sometime, either because he beat malfoy at something or their at a celebration of some sort. I can see him doing a jig of some sort.

I was thinking of Little Mo in Eastenders... See, we Brits have soaps on our minds constantly... Or it may just be, telly addict me! :p :trout:
I think Cho, is secretly crying out to be like Velma in Chicago, well that's how her character is going in my fan fic... I don't think people at ff.net like the idea of Hermione having feelings for Cho whilst she's going out with Ron... :(

Well, I see I got two out of three things I wanted, eh? The "mind power" thing with Legilimency and Occlumency. And the will power thing was there too... but not enough. I NEED MORE WILLPOWER! And I'm still hoping for a betrayal somewhere. I still hope it's Cho. Hey, her friend can do it, why can't she?
