Do you think she will finish all seven?
Well do you? I know she intended to, and that she has planned the end already. But she seems to be struggling with book five!
I think shes gotten married, gotten a cool life and stalled dreadfully!:(
I think theres a possibility she could abandon the project and we would never know the fate of Harry

Of course she could. But she'll have to find a place where she could hide from an awful lot of angry kids (and not-so-kids ;) ) and I'd never want to be her if that's the case :D
I was SERIOUSLY thinking about not buying next book (well, for more or less 2 seconds). I mean, I can barely remember what they're all about

No...no, she must...no...NO!
Heh, anyway, I think she's contractually obligated to write all seven books.
But if she doesn't, we may need to reinstate the JKR kidnapping taskforce  :D

Contracted? good, good.
By my reckoning I will be 28 by the time book 7 goes out. if book 5 comes out at all.
WHY ARE WE WAITING

We are waiting because, when the book does eventually come out, there'll be tons of hype and excitement leading to huge sales (and more money for the publishing company, JKR and all the other people invloved in making the book)
All 7 books will come out, because she can't afford not to both in a financial and reputational sense.
I'm in favour of the reinstation of the JKR kidnapping taskforce if we don't get OotP by next year.

the problem is, she could 'take as much time as she likes' and just keep putting the book/s release date off, like for years (or for ever):(
Anyway, she could AFFORD to break off a contract, she is ever so slightly loaded!

I think that this is a serious issue though. Changing your writing style (which JKR has pretty much had to do as Harry and the intended audience get older) is VERY hard, not to mention the fact that it would probably be a lot easier to write for children than to write for teenagers/adults. Add that to actually thinking up the story (which I know was sort of been done, but what about the sub-plots and stuff, like SPEW in GoF) and you have a VERY long time between books. It should probably get easier after OoTP because we've made that jump between innocence and maturity, with the cast growing up and the story getting darker and stuff, but still, I don't want to have to wait another 5 years to finish the series.

of course she has to finish all 7 books -- she already said that she's done writing the last chapter for the 7th book.....
i'm getting really impatient about book 5. when will it ever be published and distributed?! i'm dying here!

JK Rowling darn well better not abandon her fans and not write all seven books. Especially after making us wait (at least) three years between Book 4 and book 5!
Besides, didn't it somewhere say that she already has the last chapter to book 7 written?

Please don't kill me for saying this!
What if... -I know it's a real horrible imagination- if she dies ere she has finished all seven books?:(
Looks like she need a vaaaaast amount of time before she has even finished book five. How long will we have to wait until book six and seven are released? What if she has an accident? Or gets ill? Oh, I'm allready feeling sick by the mere thought of it.:( :(
But I have still to say something, and this time it might be sth less horrible: Somewhere I'v read that she has already finished book five. Really, no fake, I don't make it up. Is is just not published yet, because they first want to release the second film. It would not be good for marketing if both things would be sold together, you know. People need time between buying book and ticket. Great, isn't it?

I knew it'd all boil down to money (as it usually does)
  Don't say such things ! All 7 books must be finished - my sanity depends on it (plus I don't really want to see JKR get ill or die anyway)

I defintely think we'll get to see all 7 books, even if it takes her years. I think the issue is about a bit more than money. These characters are precious to her and she knows and loves them inside out like real people. She knows them better than anyone. JKR, knowing all that she knows, will probably feel utterly incomplete and fragmented if she doesn't finish them (just like we will if we don't get to read them soon! ;)) We're all so eager to read them, and I think she's more than eager to get them written. These are her babies, guys! :D
Don't fear! They're coming, all in good time.. (just hope it's sooner than later!) And, like Remus said, my sanity soley depends on it.
EDIT: And let's not forget she signed a contract. :p

But in that case she could go ahead and release the date. It doesn't mean she has to start selling it in a month.
Just GIVE US A DATE! I'm thinking July, but March would be nice. :) She similarly doesn't want to release the book so soon after the DVD.

Yeah, if only we had a date to look forward to, it would make it all so much easier.

Don't know where you read it, but I just saw the same in a BBC interview (http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/uk/newsid_2269000/2269270.stm) :) She still refuses to set a deadline saying she doesn't want to disappoint fans if she can't make the date for whatever reason, but says she's basically got the book from start to end and is revising it now (trying to avoid more errors like those cited in our nit-picker's threads, I bet ;)) So while we still have no release date, she did hint that OotP is much closer than everyone thinks :D
Edited to add: OTOH, I've started seeing rumors that JKR is now pregnant. From what I've seen of friends who've had kids, the whole pregnancy/childbirth/caring-for-a-baby thing could very well be the 'whatever reason' that could easily knock any schedule for publishing Book 5 out of whack. If it's true, congrats to JKR :) and let's all hope everything goes smoothly so the book isn't further delayed ;)

I went to a HP sight that keeps track of the release and they say that the book is to the editors. I can't remember where it is, but as soon as I find the link, I'll post it.
